Sugar Plum Bakery Workforce TrainingIn 2005 Sugar Plum Bakery and the special education annex for the Virginia Beach Public School System partnered in the development of a work experience program for seniors exiting the school system.

The program provides 6 students a unique opportunity to gain employment skills at Sugar Plum Bakery.

Students are recommended for the program by their teachers. The students are selected in a very similar manner as applying for a job. They complete resumes and interview in front of a panel consisting of job coaches, DRS support coordinators and Annez staff.

Students develop important skills such as responsibility, communication, working with others, working independently and working with a job coach. The students are scheduled to rotate through three areas of the bakery in six to eight week intervals.

Since 2005 45 high school students have graduated from the program.
